Ohio Seal of Biliteracy

New Albany High School is pleased to offer our senior students the opportunity to earn the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy. This program recognizes students who have achieved a high level of proficiency in English and another foreign language. In addition to the Seal of Biliteracy’s link to graduation requirements, earning this prestigious honor will demonstrate a student’s commitment to bilingualism, potentially gaining more opportunities for employment and bringing a greater understanding of other world cultures. New Albany High School seniors will have the opportunity to earn the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy by demonstrating proficiency in English and in a foreign language through the guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Education. The assessment will be offered twice this school year, once this October as well as once in spring 2024.

In order to earn the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy, students must earn a proficient score on the foreign language assessment approved by the Ohio Department of Education. This computer-based assessment will be offered on campus in the NAPLS Annex Building (79 N. High St.) on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 7:45 a.m. The district will cover the cost of the assessment for seniors one time this school year; therefore, there is no cost for seniors to test this fall. *If seniors choose to retake this assessment in the spring of 2024, there will be a cost that each registered student will have to pay. If after registering, a student decides they would like to change their fall registration to the spring of 2024, they must notify Assistant Principal Jennifer Rehm (Rehm.3@napls.us) by Friday, October 27.

Students must use their district-issued iPad to complete this exam. Because this exam is computer-based, students must know how to type in the language in which they are testing on their iPad. Chromebooks will be available for use for students who prefer to have a keyboard. This assessment will be offered for the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Interested students must complete the following registration Google Form by Monday, October 16, 2023. Once the registration form is received, the district will register each student with our testing company, Language Testing International (LTI).

New Albany High School is excited to offer this opportunity to this year’s senior class. Specific testing information will be communicated to registered students the week prior to testing.

Any questions about this recognition program or the registration process can be directed to Elizabeth Kittle, Global Languages Department Chair (kittle.1@napls.us).
