Academic Support

Academic Lab

What is it?
Subject-specific academic support provided to students during the day in the Jefferson room.

When is it?
Available during various periods throughout the day.

How do I sign up?
Communicate with the content teacher to see if academic lab help is available during the student’s study center.

Example: If a student is struggling in math, they would contact their math teacher requesting that they be signed up for academic lab.  The math teacher would check the academic lab schedule to see if support is available during the student’s study center and schedule the student for math support during that time.

Multi-Tiered System of SupportĀ

New Albany High School has implemented a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) which is a system created to ensure student academic success.

The process includes a research-based data review to understand the performance of our students so that we can link those in need to academic support.  The data review includes historic tests, grades, attendance, and teacher observations.

The image below helps to explain the Tiers of instruction we provide for students.

Tier 1: Core instruction provided in the classroom.  Teachers modify daily approaches to enhance student learning within the classroom.

Tier 2: If students struggle to understand the content, additional supports are provided including office hours and academic lab.

Tier 3: If the frequency of Tier 2 supports is not sufficient in meeting the needs of students, the intensity and frequency of supports are amplified.
