The Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The New Albany High School Theatre Department was selected to perform as a part of the American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) in the summer of 2019. AHSTF is a part of the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest performing arts festival in the world. Our school's theatre department was reviewed through a rigorous application process and selected to participate in AHSTF 2019, which is a huge honor for our district and community!

AHSTF was developed to allow performing arts students and directors to showcase their skills on an international stage. Their festival provides an amazing educational opportunity for participants to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland and experience, firsthand, the Festival Fringe.

Students' journey began in England, where they explored London, saw shows in the West End, and participated in a workshop at Shakespeare's Globe. Then, they traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland. There, they had a guided sightseeing of Edinburgh and time to experience the Fringe and the city. Students also experienced Scottish culture with a Ceilidh, a night of traditional Scottish dance, and attendance at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a breathtaking concert of military bands from around the world that is performed in front of the Edinburgh Castle. Through this trip, they had the opportunity to get to know students from other schools from around the world and perform on the famous Royal Mile. This tour also expanded on students' education by offering a free college credit.

The most important aspect of this trip was our performance overseas. We took a production to AHSTF 2019 and performed it four times in one of their venues in Edinburgh. Students had the opportunity to showcase their talents to an international audience! The show we took to Edinburgh is Heathers: The Musical.
